Overview
By-Law Number 2481 is a Corporation of The County of Essex By-law to provide for the protection of highways and to provide for the installation of entrance ways.
“Whereas, The Public Transportation and Highway Improvement Act, R.S.O. 1980, Chapter 419, and the Municipal Act, R.S.O. 1980, Chapter 302, contain various sections permitting a municipality to regulate the installation of any access required to public highways within the jurisdiction of the Corporation of the County of Essex and further provides for the passing of by-laws in various ways of streets within a municipality”
An Entrance and Other Miscellaneous Works Permit must be issued prior to the construction or alteration of any driveway or passway or other access for any purpose whatsoever over to or from any public highway within the jurisdiction of the County of Essex.
An Entrance and Other Miscellaneous Works Permit must be issued prior to the breaking up of, or alteration of, any earth, gravel, curb, sidewalk, shoulder, or any surface of any public highway within the jurisdiction of the County of Essex.
Once a completed online application has been received by the County of Essex the following actions will be initiated:
- The County of Essex will review the application with attached plans and respond via e mail indicating the required Fees and Deposits.
- The applicant will provide the required Fees and Deposits by entering their credit card information.
- The County of Essex will then generate an Entrance and Other Miscellaneous Works Permit and forward copies of the permit and appropriate standard drawings and specifications (as required) to the applicant as well as to the local municipality’s building department.
- The County of Essex will perform associated surveying and prepare drawings (as required) in support of the proposed works.
- When the project is completed to the satisfaction of the County of Essex, a refund of the applicant’s Deposit will be returned to their credit card.
